The Perfect One

I was reading one of the entries of a member of a group of Christian Bloggers about Christians nowadays being underrated for the reason that some of them don’t act what they speak. Looking at it in a cynical angle, it seems that they are just a bunch of charlatans. But hey! Come on. Nobody is perfect. Anyone has its flaws. We are all sinners. We stumble once in while. Don’t be too hard on them. One thing good about Christians is that they have a track to follow. Once they caught getting off balance and swerving a bit as long as they have a clearer vision of their true north and intend to go back, I guess they are still cool.

However, we are indeed imperfect but that's not a reason for us not to aim for perfection. I always like the idea that people should always find us faithful. Aiming for perfection does not mean that you got to be a member of all the religious org that you knew or you got be well versed in the bible or you got to be a theologian or you got to be a missionary. Although they are in a way tools to become a good Christian, that’s not all.

One well known Filipino writer wrote an article and has been published in her book says that the reason why she does not join such group is that this is just a bunch of people who fish you and use the group as a vehicle for them to exhibit that they are holier, better and more all-knowing than you and they are there to save you from your miserable life. “Excuse me?.” The writer put up a strong word. I would not say she’s right. Neither would I say she’s wrong. Maybe she just met the misaligned kind of fishers of men or maybe this was just her perception.

Self righteousness clouds the wisdom on how to become a true servant. This reminds me of the Pharisee Jesus mentioned in the bible. There are People like Pharisee who consider themselves healthy through their own effort and always think that God favours them more than anybody else. There was this Pharisee in the temple who stood up and gave thanks to God because he was not like the robbers, the adulterers and evil-doers like the tax-collector. The tax collector was in the temple as well and he asked for mercy that he may be cleansed from his sins. Jesus favoured the tax collector over the Pharisee because the tax collector humbled himself before the Lord.

Aiming for perfection: is it a tough? Hmmmm. Naaah. Just be humble. Although in some ways it is difficult to be humble. Paul says that “when I am weak, them I am strong.” Admit that you are not perfect. Surrender your totality to Him. And then acknowledge that you need God to fill your imperfection for perfection. And that’s how you aim for perfection: looking at the Perfect One who can fill your void.
