WHAT DEFINES OUR WELL BEINGS

In the sermon of the parish priest during the Sunday mass he sighted two kinds of people: those who believe in God and those who do not believe in God. The fact that we were attending mass he humorously took that we are obviously not the latter. We call the latter atheist. They do not believe in God and therefore they believe we are created by something else the likely candidate of which  is an accident of colliding stars in space and after we die there is nothing. In the early society i used to belong when i was younger i haven't met any atheist presumably because they were not acceptable and popular. Now they can be everywhere, visible, not hiding and mostly with conviction. I have met and conversed with them in the bus, in spa and in any normal place. They respect what we do and there is no reason why i should not respect them. They don't despise me and i don't despise them. There are also who are in between: the agnostics who are not sure about the existence of God. There is another whom we call Secular who does not.  believe in or exercise religion.

The priest also raised a question about religion. Religion is a defined system that relates humanity to spirituality. Do we need religion? Although spiritual guidance and living a good life can be attained without being attached to any religion, religion can offer various forums and structures where people can exercise spiritual enhancement. The Bible tells about true and false religion. Yet if one is exercising true religion you may see that one may manifest outcome which far away from the purpose of true religion. There was a Filipino Song called "Banal na Aso, Santong Kabayo" ( Holy Hound, Saintly Horse) which I thought before as too much accusation. Now i know that it's true. Religion can define well beings. Yet there are twisted beings within the compound of religion which are not necessarily defined by it.

Religion is wonderful. My wife and i benefit from it. The other night we discussed about the sermon of the priest and how much we have learned from it.  We can always say that we can get by with or without it for sure. But it is also true that Religion is God's gift if we only make the most of its true benefit.

"Of all bad men religious bad men are the worst."
